The Script Lab
The intensive four-day residency programme with Mahesh Dattani (director of Dance Like a Man, Morning Raga; playwright of On a muggy night in Mumbai) will include two days of instruction, one day of mentorship and will conclude with dramatised readings of the plays in an outdoor setting. The programme will focus on screenplay structure, character development, dialogue, theme, visualisation and dramaturgy.
We are at looking at mid-career writers/copywriters, journalists & bloggers to apply; in short anyone who has some writing experience to show. This workshop is to help aspiring scriptwriters turn a critical eye on their own works, tap talent, assist with character development and give constructive/critical feedback.
The process of creating the script will begin mid-October with guidelines from Mahesh Dattani at regular intervals.
Only 15 persons will be selected.

Language:
English will be the medium of instruction, but participants can choose to write in English or Hindi

Anyone above the age of 15
Structure:
The participants will be introduced to Mahesh Dattani, who will underline a theme and the framework of the residency. The participants will be encouraged to work on their scripts based on these guidelines. There will be another round in interactions in November, where Mahesh Dattani will detail another set of guidelines. Finally, it will culminate in December with the intensive residency.
To be noted:
The registration fee is Rs 10,000. This will include boarding, three meals, mentorship and materials required for the programme. The writers will be put up at a lovely home-stay to encourage focused and personal interactions. You will go back with more than just the script.
The participants will have to bear their travel expenses to and from Goa.

Are you a resident artist of the South Asian Subcontinent? Do you struggle to work out the contradictions of a cohesive past and divided present within your work? Does your art derive its productive force from the subcontinent’s overlapping mythical, historical, cultural, geographical and political environment? Do you look at art as a method to build communication beyond the political boundaries of its nation-states? Are you concerned about the cultural and representational future of south Asia?
Serendipity Arts Trust invites artists from countries of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan for its upcoming multidisciplinary project “Young Subcontinent” curated by Riyas Komu, to investigate a collective cultural future of south Asia.
The project is scheduled to take place in December 2016 in Goa, India.
Planned around the framework of workshops, residencies and exhibition, the ‘Young Subcontinent’ project shall offer grants to artists below the age of 45, working with any medium, from diverse geographies of South Asia to produce work and engage with issues that may loosen the tension between its nation-states. The project aims to build patronage, and at the same time foreground young unnoticed artists from the subcontinent whose work seek attention.

Serendipity Arts Trust invites photographers, and artists working with the photographic medium, from countries of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan for its upcoming multidisciplinary project “Young Subcontinent”, of which works relating to photography will be curated by Prashant Panjiar.
The project is scheduled to take place in December 2016 in Goa, India.
The ‘Young Subcontinent’ project shall offer grants to artists below the age of 45, working with any medium, from diverse geographies of South Asia to produce work and engage with issues that may loosen the tension between its nation/states by.
Photographers and artists working with the photographic medium who are interested in being part of the Young Subcontinent project should send us the following:
- 15 to 25 low-resolution images from an ongoing body of work or project
- Images should be 1200 pixels on the longer side and saved in JPEG format.
- A short synopsis or description of your submitted body of work
- A short biography or CV
